How To Write A Proposal For A Research Paper: Effective Tips
Preparing a proposal for your research paper can be a very useful tool. It is a necessary step for most college courses, but it can also save you from picking a topic or thesis that is just not workable. In order to write a proposal, you have to do some basic preliminary research. If you want to write a good proposal, there are a number of steps that need to be followed.
- Why did you choose this particular topic? You need to convince your powers-to-be that this article is worthy of writing. Also indicate what relevance your particular topic has to your overall course subject.
- What is your thesis? What are you going to argue or try to prove in all of this paper. You may want some help in forming this thesis. You can ask advice from your professor or teaching assistant. Let them help you form a proper thesis.
- Explain how you are going to do your paper. Recreate your outline into paragraph form. Use some of your topic sentences. Obviously, you will have to have done some research in order to be able to do this. You are pretty much giving a synopsis of your paper except for the conclusion or your findings.
- Provide a preliminary partial bibliography- Your proposal has to prove that there is enough justifiable proof that you are using to substantiate your paper. Your professor will let you know how many sources you will need to have at this point. Also, state in your writing if you are going to do any live interviews. You, as well as your professor, needs to know there is enough research material out there to prove what you are trying to prove.
You may find out during this exercise that you don’t have enough information available to you to effectively prove your thesis. At this point, you either have to change your thesis or change your topic. It is better to have to change it at this point than to have to deal with a poor research paper because there isn’t enough proof to validate your thesis. This proposal is an assignment created to make sure you are spending your time wisely. Your professors want to make sure you are attempting to make a real contribution to your field of study. Through your proposal, you will be able to prove that exact fact.
