Writing A Research Paper About Drug: Basic Advice
Drugs are a great topic for a research paper. It’s deep and controversial, and gives you plenty of room to express your own opinion. There is also plenty of research about drugs and quite a few official studies that you can use as evidence to prove your point. Your paper doesn’t necessarily have to be focused on drug abuse, which is the first choice for many.
There are many effects that these chemicals have on the society, and not all of them are negative. You can elaborate on this in your essay or come up with something truly unique. One of the possibilities is to focus on one drug and tell the readers about its history, effects (both good and bad), uses, and the impact it had on the world.
For example, did you know that morphine was used in a cough syrup a few decades ago? Opium was the last resort of many doctors who didn’t want to see their patients suffer before their imminent deaths. There are plenty of other examples you can find with a little research, so you’ll definitely be able to come up with a great topic once you do some reading on the subject.
When you know what exactly you want to write about, you can start with the actual process of creating a strong research paper.
- Thesis and outline.
- Research and notes.
- The paper.
The first thing you need to do is to come up with a thesis statement. It’s a sentence that states the core idea of the essay. All the arguments and evidence presented in the actual text serve to prove the point you make in this initial statement.
With your thesis in mind, you need to create an outline, a plan of the paper. Every point of the outline must correspond one paragraph of the text you plan to create. You can only introduce one argument per paragraph.
Now that you know what to look for, you can start doing more in-depth research of the subject. Use your outline to guide you through the heaps of information. Take careful notes to make sure you don’t forget anything important. You should color code them or make note cards in order to make it easier for you to organize them.
Always write the body paragraphs first. When you complete them, you will know what exactly to write in the short summaries that must be included in both the introduction and conclusion. You may also need to adjust your thesis statement a little.
